This segment is a tribute to the origin of Nausicaa's name. Miyazaki scholars know that Nausicaa was named after a character from the Odyssey that lived on the island of Scheria and was the beloved princess of the people known as the Phaecians. |

Miyazaki was inspired by the character of this young woman who was gracious, courageous, and kind, and these qualities are all evident in his incarnation of Nausicaa. |
